The Bethel Commercial Center at Lake & Pulaski Is Solid Gold!!

The Bethel Commercial Center of Bethel New Life, Inc. was awarded LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is the USGBC’s leading edge system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, energy efficient, high performing buildings.  A formal awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 10 A.M. on the grounds of the Bethel Commercial Center. Invited guests included: Mayor Richard Daley and community Alderpersons, Congressmen and Senators. The Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Environment, Suzanne Malec-McKenna was the special guest speaker.  Doug Farr, Farr and Associates, the Center’s architect provided insight into the Center’s “Green” construction and an in-depth history of how the project came into being- the first of its kind on Chicago’s Westside. After the Awards Ceremony tours were conducted of the Center and the green rooftop garden. The community was invited to the celebration.

Turning Over Tables – Revisited

Earlier in the year, we talked about the changes that needed to happen to improve our personal and professional lives, our organization and our community. I used the story of Jesus in the Temple as an example of not letting the status quo continue but to turn over the tables and establish a new day: a new way of living, working, surviving.
